Fairmaid) also accompanied the Councillors. The first work to be discussed was the concrete curbing, channelling and ■Hie re-laying of the footpath from 1 Mackay Street, along Boundary Street ” and up Mawhera Quay, as far as the (Joverninent buildings. ' On viewing Easson’s Hill the Councillors decided to proceed with the rc[grading and widening of the portion of the road between Murray and iThompson Streets, and also to re-torm the footpath. I From Easson’s Hill the Councillors [went to the sewerage works, at present [being constructed at the Sawyer’s Creek bridge. They expressed pleasure at the progress being made, and the Engineer was instructed to widen the corner at the bridge. Al Marlborough Street, the Councillors were met by Mr (L R. Cottle, regarding access to his property, which has been made to appear difficult through the sub-division of the Joyce Estate. After a lengthy conversation the Council decided to go into the legal position to see what could be done. A visit was then made to the stone crusher at Karoro. which was in operation, ami the Engineer detailed to the Councillors the work of the crusher, which is providing metal for the Council at 3s .”»d per yard. 'l’he Councillors inspected the work being carried out in Palmerston Street, and the water-walk, at the rear of the Hospital, and from there a full survey of the Blaketown Streets and footpaths was made. At Packer’s Quay the Councillors were unanimous in their praise of the improvements that have been carried out there. 'The Engineer gave an explanation of the work that is proposed to be done (some of which is already under way) al the intersection of Boundary and Arney Streets, in front of the Victoria Park. The footpath is being I constructed on the western side of . Boundary Street, and it is proposed to square up and put down in grass the vacant triangular pieces of ground there. The following is a summary of works in progress, works to be undertaken in the order decided upon as per the Works Committee’s Report of February last, and of works contemplated. The various items are arranged in tho order in which they were inspected in the course of the tour of inspection, which proceeded from the Town Hall via Boundary Street, Mawhera Quay and Omoto Road to the Borough boundary; then via Tainui and High Streets and Paroa Road to the Cemetery; then via Water-walk, Preston Road and Blake Street to Blaketown. return to the Town Hall being via Preston Road and Boundary Street.
