BULLI ELECTION
TO-DAY’S POLL Tory View of the Contest (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received June 2 at 8.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 2. The eyes of the Eastern Australian States are on the Bull! by-election in New South Wales, which stakes place to-morrow. Mr J. T. Lang is desperately anxious that, the inner Labour group candidate. Mr Sweeney, should win, and that Mr Willis (ex-Agent-General) should be kept, out at all costs. The political fates of both Mr Lang and Mr Willis hang thus in the balance. The Premier, Mr Stevens, visited the electorate on Thursday on behalf of the United Australia candidate, Mr Butterill, who is understood to have been making great headway. His preferences, it is believed, will decide the issue.
The Premier’s chief note in his speeches was that, it what Mr Lang says about Mr Willis is true, then the last place in which Mr Willis should be is Parliament; and. on the other hand, if what Mr Willis says about Mr Lang is true, then Mr Lang is a political opportunist, a wealthy estate agent, and a squire who has fed the populace on a diet of crocodile tears for many years.
