June 2In a ear shod door, “Koop quiet and hand over all you've got!” This command, coming from a man armed with a. weapon resembling a pea rifle, startled Mr C. Williams, of No. 10, Aroha Street, as ho stepped out of his car in his private garage late on Thursday night. With presence of mind. Williams attempted to treat the matter as a joke, but ho was soon given t<> understand that the intruder was in a serious mood. Recounting his experience. Williams said that ho realised that discretion would be the betrer part of valour, and ho handed over a small roll of notes, containing £1 I. at the same time giving his assailant to understand that it was all he had. The latter seemed to be satisfied. ami decamped along Argyle Avenue to Rangitkei Street. Williams said that he attempted to . h:i<e the man. but. by the time he got his car out and started, there was no sign of the robber. Williams’ residence is <>ii the corner ol Aroha Street and Argyle Avenue, while the garage, which is generally left open when the ear is in use. faces Aroha Street. There was no sign of anyone in the building as ho drove into it with his lights full on on Thursday night, but his assailant could easily have concealed himself behind one of the doors.
The individual, who is described as a tall, dark man. waited until Williams had turned off the car lights and was stepping out of the car. before accosting him. Williams said that he had £65 in notes in two rolls in his pockets altogether. but ho only handed over the smaller one, containing £l4.
