TARIFF TRUCE

In the House of Commons, referring to the proposed, tariff truee, Mt Ne ville Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer) said the object of it was to discourage the starting of new np ward initiatives, and it was not intended to prevent the completion of any operations already begun. The British Import Duties Advisory Committee could continue to perform its statutory obligations, including the receipt and examination of applications for alterations in duties, but. tho Government. during tho truce would refrain from increasing customs duties in respect to any applications not. received before May 12. He mentioned that an application regarding silk duties was made before May 12.
