MILK WAR
At Auckland FARMERS' VERSES MILKMEN. . (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND. March 9. - A decision to reduce the price of loose milk to 3d a quart and of bottled milk to 4d a quart, in order to compete with the newly-formed Farmers and Vendors Association, was made at a meeting of milk Vendors and Farmers. The spirit of the meeting was summ ed up in the words of one vendor. “There has been a declaration of war,” he said. “We cannot offord to sell mi k at 3d a quart, but we must be prepared to do so for an indefinite period, rather than lose our trade.” Mr Haslam said the action of the Farmers and Vendors Association had resulted in an almost impossible position. The alternatives were going out of business or fighting against the new position.
