Wildcrmoth, employed in a tunnel on the Waitahu race, sustained a severe injury to his left pye on Wednesday, a piece of wood from, a lath i n lhe tunnel entering the optic. He came into town and the wood was removed by Dr. Wickcn. The condition of Airs J. McNamara at the Reefton Hospital, was this morning much brighter, but she is still v''rv dangerously ill. Word has been received from Greymouthl that Air W. Rivers i s xery sori ously ill. His Reefto n relatives went to Greymouth to-day to see him. Air Ernest Bolitho, of Black’s Point is reported to be showing considerable provemont in his condition. At the meeting of the Inangahua Aralley branch of the Farmers’ Union, there was a good attendance, Air R. Bell presiding. 'The Postmaster, Reefton wrote regarding rural mail. The. Secretary supply information required. Railway Department wrote re. running an extra train on Saturday, asking if the branch wag prepared to contribute*. —Resolved that the Department be informed that the branch is not prepared to contribute. Air P. Smith wrote resigning his position as vice'President. —Received with regret and the appointment of a •uccessor was held over. It was resolved that next meeting be held at R.otokohu Schoolroom, on the second Thursday in October, and that a delegation from the Inangahua A. and P. Association be invited to attend and dis cuss the question of the inclusion of stock classes in the Show schedule. It was resolved that the Inangahua County Council be approached regarding the river protection works at Douglas’s Farm, Waitahu.

The County Council meeting was attended by Crs Blackadder (chairman), J. B. Auld, J. O. Byrne, D. Panckhurst, J. O’Regan, T. Watson, W. Clayton and F. W. Archer. A report on the town water supply was submitted by Crs Auld, Archer ami Panckhurst. —It was proposed by Cr. O’Regan, seconded by Cr. Byrne, that as a lot of work had been put into the report that the throe councillors be granted 21s each for their services. Cr. Auld stated that a lot of good work had been done on the race by the foreman. —It was resolved that the report be adopted, and the subcommittee be accorded a vote of thanks. The foreman was instructed to proceed with the work as soon as possible. The foreman’s report was presented, also report of Air C. Willis, supervisor at Alexander track, stating a further 20 chains of track had been completed. Cr. Archer considered that the work was not being advanced as it should be. Cr. Archer proposed and Cr. Clayton seconded, that Air Willis be asked to resign as supervisor at Stevenson’s Flat. Cr. Blackadder moved an amendment that the Council carry on for a week as at present, and that Air Haldane ascertain the number of mon willing to camp at Stevenson’s Flat, their names to be submitted to the Council for selection. Cr. Archer contended that his proposal should be put to the meeting. He agreed to alter his resolution to the effect that Air Willis be informed that his services would not be required as supervisor after the end of the month. This was carried, also the resolution regarding men camping on the work. It was resolved on the motion of Crs. O’Rogan and Blackadder, that a committee be formed to formulate a scheme w’hereby the money at present being expended in transport of men to Stevenson’s Flat be spent on construction work. Crs. Watson, Panckhurst and Archer, with the Chairman, were appointed to the Committee. Cr. Auld

Crs. Blackadder and O’Regan dissented. The resolution was carried. The matter of attention to a drain at Waiuta was left to the foreman for report. It was resolved that work on river protection at Brazils, at Waitahu, be undertaken as men are available and that the foreman lie instructed to place a light bridge across Boatman’s Creek at the old Fiery Cross Battery. Cr. Blackaddor moved and Cr. Auld seconded, that Cr. Archer be recommended as a member of the local Unemployment Committee. — Carried. The District Inspector of Factories forwarded copy of a letter from Wild and Robertson in connection with the proposed reconstruction of a sawmill at Rough River. The matter was left in the hands of the Foreman and the Riding members to confer with Air Robertson. Air G. G. Lockington wrote re access to his land at Giles Creek, asking what assistam-e tin* Council could render by way of a suspension bridge.—No action was taken. \V. Doig. Blackwater, requested permission to cross the Black water-Waiuta road with a pipe line.—This request was granted. W. E. Burley wrote asking that water bo connected to garage*. Walsh Street, Reefton.—liesolved that Air Burley’s request be acceded to. and that the chaige be 3s fid per week. The Prime Alinister acknowledged receipt of a letter re widows’ and miners’ phthisis pensions.—Resolved that the Clerk reply, urging the utmost consideration. Afessrs Honey and Sullivan asked that the road leading to coal mine at Reefton be widened and metalled.—The foreman is to report, to the next meeting. Air C. E. Bransden wrote asking for repairs to J.anding, Brown Creek Road.—Left to the foreman. The Secretary of the Unemployed Workers’ Alovcmcnt forwarded a resolution regarding men being called out for work.—The Chairman moved and Cr. Archer seconded, that the Secretary bo informed that the men were always notified when work is available for them. The Alovement also asked the Chairman to convene a public meeting to find ways and means of establishing a fund for the relief of distress amongst the unemployed in the district. —It was resolved that the Secretary be asked for information re the distress. Cr. Archer proposed and Cr. Panckhurst seconded that the Counties! Association be written to asking what steps the County is able to take in the collection of long outstanding rates on Crown land properties that are tenanted.—Carried. The Secretary of the A. and P. Association wrote thanking the Council for use of Chambers, and asking that the,

Mr Archer referred to indigent persons passing through the district who had been referred to oiluw oflh-ers. The Chairman said as far as he knew no necessitous cases had been refused asssitancc except when under the influence of liquor. Ln replv to Mr Afclnroe. the secretary said the Board’s resolution granting 4s (id per day applied only to cases where a patient was recommended to enter another hospital by the Medical Superintendent. Mr Blackadder suggested that the Board apply for a subsidy to erect a fence around the Hospital garden. The Secretary stated that the lease of the Board’s paddock on the Buller Road had run out. Tt was decided that the present lessee be ottered the lease of the paddock for a further term of three years at the same rental, £8 per year. Waiuta Miners’ ALcdical Association wrote re furniture and equipment of AVaiuta Hospital, asking assistance in improving the building and ground. The Secretary stated the value of the materials after deductions made was £67. Mr Archer moved and Mr Clayton seconded that the amount of £l2 10s per month subsidy be given to the \5 aiuta Medical Association.—Carried. Dr. Marshall pointed out the necessity of having the enamel utensils replaced by mono-metal. It would be cheaper in the long run. Mono-metal was practically everlasting. The.y could have this indented along with the Grey Hospital Board’s supplies. It was decided that the matter be left to Dr. Marshall, the town members and the secretary to inquire into. The Department of Health wrote re unemployed men classed as B2 and C, not fit for camp but. fit for light work in town. The Chairman said the Board

always gave assistance in such cases. The Public Trust Office, Dunedin, wrote re the estate of Roland Parker, asking consent to have account ranked as an ordinary account. —Resolved to advise the Public Trustee that the Board declined to have the account ranked as an ordinary account. Waiuta Miners’ Medical Association wrote tor copy of condition regarding the transport of patients from Waiuta to Roof ton.—The Secretary stated there were no specifications. A. E. Werry wrote re account for treatment of his son, and complained of treatment received. In reply to Mr Archer, the chairman said this was the first occasion on whici a complaint had been
