SIR WALTER SCOTT
His Centenary GREAT SCOTTISH CELEBRATIONS. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received September 22 at 7 p.m.) LONDON. September 21. The celebrations on the occasion of the centenary of Sir Walter Scott, the famous Scottish novelist, reached their climax when the whole of the Border Country became ablaze with beacons. Prince George attended the memorial service at St. Gile’s Church, Edinburgh, and he later laid a wreatli on the Scott Memorial in the presence of a great gathering of Scotsmen, including peers, churchmen, judges,-pro-fessors and magistrates, who afterwards attended at luncheon nt the Parliament Hall. Prince George in the evening attended a pageant performed by fourteen hundred school children at the Waverley Market, where scenes from Scott’s novels were acted.
