PARLIAMENT
CURRENCY QUESTION. WELLINGTON, September 21. Mr Forbes, in reply to a question, stated he had as yet no opportunity of discussing with Mr Coates, the result of the consultations which had taken place at Ottawa on the banking and currency issues. Cabinet would shortly consider the whole question in relation to Sir O. Niemeyer’s recommendation for a central Reserve Bank in the Dominion. No alteration in the | present banking system could be contemplated, or made without the most serious investigation and mature consideration. What had already to be guarded against was anything that would undermine confidence, destroying the thrift of the people. A caucus of the Labour Party will be held on Thursday, and members of the Government party will meet on Friday. Only formal business will be dealt with this week. After the opening the House will adjourn until Friday afternoon, when tribute will be paid to the memory of deceased legislators. The adjournment will then be until Tuesday, when the Address-in-Reply debate will com mence.
