On this occasion, for the first time at Court, all of the gowns were Britishmade in material and design. This was due to the Queen’s special request. The Queen herself set an example by wearing a lovely .embroidered gown with silver and gold train, and Irish lace. There was ,the usual assembly of motor-cars, there being four hundred debutantes in the Mall, where a fine evening enabled the Londoners to enjoy the parade of English beauty and fashion. White, pink and pale lettuce green were the dominant colours. Some of the loveliest frocks were made of Nottingham lace, being singularly beautiful against a background of r d roses, laburnum, and deep coloured hydrangeas, which were banked around the State apartments. The King wore the scarlet and gold

uniform of the Colonel-in-Chief of the Scot s Guards, with a crepe arm-band.
