RIMU JUBILEE
Rimu will, to-day be the rendezvous for a large number of West Coaste>s from far and near, on the occasion of the Golden Jubi’ee of its goldfield. The festivities will commence at 10.30 a-m.. with a monster procession from Woodstock, in which tableaux re calling the early days of (the field w 11 be seen. There will be sports and good fare, and in the evening a hall, both in Rimu and in Woodstock. The Secretaries of the Jubilee Commit tee. Messrs W. Knowles and W. Boyd, have received from the Membei for the District, Mr Jas. O’Brien, a 'eater, stating that in response to repre* sentat’ons, Hon. C‘. E. McMillan (Minister of Mines), has promised this week to reply to a request for a grant towards the celebrations. In thanking the Committee for an invitation to attend Air O’Brien stated that if at all possible, he would be present, but in the event of the Government’s proposal •to extend the life of Parliament, it would prevent his absence from th® House. He concludes with an expression of the best wishes for the success of the function.
The Committee have also received advice from an old Rimu boy, Mr Peter McCormick, of South Westland, irhaf a good number from the Waiho and the vicinity intend being present at the Jubilee, and that Messrs Graham Bros, of the Waiho Hostel, have as from to-day until Monday next, arranged the following special rates to accommodate jubilee visitors to the Franz Josef Glacier: Two days. 245; or 30s, including journey on thu ice, guide fee, and equipment.
