The death sentences on ChrystaJ and Farlow, for wounding with initent to murder, a constable at Van cluse on July 28, last, have been com D'.uted to life-imprisonment ROTARY CONFERENCE. • SYDNEY. April 26. A distinguished gathering of Rotarians attending the conference of th.* seventy-sixth district at Newcastle, warmly welcomed Sydney Pascall Pro sident of the Rotary International. The iGovernor said that he rejoiced at the opportunity of meeting Al Pascall, the first Britisher to occupy the presidency of the International. Four hundred Rotarians from aH parts of Australia arc attending the conference. One of the subjects being discussed is bribery and corruption in commercial life, the out com i of which will be a decision to form a bribery and secrets commissions prevention league, which will make appropriate representations to the authorities. Air Pascall’s address etn phasised the advantages of service be fore self, and the creation of a healthy ( social atmosphere. He said that ro tary clubs were drawing France ami Germany closer together, and bridg ing the prejudices between Dutch ami English in South Africa.
