HOW TO CARRY ON.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Hon. George Forbes, in his remarks to rhe recent deputation which waited upon him. stated that a loan of £2O 000.000 would enable his Government to carry on without putting into effect further cuts in staff wages, etc. We, the undersigned, representing the poor fish of this community who are appalled at the vis on of the future when our children have to face the payment of interest built up by our socalled statesmen, offer him this loan on the following cond tions: — (a) No further overseas borrowing. We cannot afford further interest and must endeavour to pay back the millions already raised in London. (b) Thjjt a ten years’ plan be introduced along the following lines. All exportable products to be subsidised and prices stabilised at a figure which will enable our farmers to “carry on” over this period and know from year to year what their produce is going to realise. Incidentally, this wTI remove the greatest gamble at present indulged in. (<•) That a decent Gaming Act be carried legalising “bookies,” Tatis, etc., that w e might stop being hypocritical and a little more honest with ou 1 selves. (d) That a little more energy be displayed in obtaining new overseas markets. That goods from overseas be prohibited entirely unless the country from which they are purchased take s a similar value from us. (?) That Customs duties be placed under review yearly by a committee from the Chambers of Commerce.

And now the money. We. representing ihc people of New Zealand, with faith in its destiny, agree to accept as legal tender £1 Treasury Notes, and fa ther agree to redeem them by a stamp duty of one penny each time w e bank this “Bradbury.” the stamp to be affixed to the back of the notes and cancel ed by the teller of the banks on presentation.
