NEW FEDERAL MOVE For Income Tax Data (Ags. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) CANBERRA, April 26. Events in the fight being waged by the Commonwealth Government against New South Wales for recovery of payment on behalf of that State, of overseas interest, advanced a further stage, following a meeting of the Federal Cabinet, when instructions were issued to the State Taxation Officer of New South Wales (Mr McMahon) to hand over to the Commonwealth Treasurer all documents relating to the State and Federal Income Taxation.

A special gazette was issued amend ing the regulations under the Financial Agreement Enforcement Act, to provide that all documents relating to taxation be handed over to the Commonwealth Treasurer on demand. The Commonwealth has power under the regulations to forcibly enter the N.S.W. State offices, and seize whatever documents it may require.

FEDERAL MEASURE TO TAKE N.S.W. REVENUE. FROM RAILWAYS, TRAMS AND THE TOTF PANBERBA, April 27. The railway and tramway revenue throughout New Souh Wales it being attacked by the Commonwealth under a bill to amend the Financial Agreement Enforcement Act. The Bill was introduced by the Prime Minister Mr Lyons, and passed, in the Federal House to-day. The New South Wales railway officials, who are now using railway monies for the payment of salaries, wages and other outgoings will be required to hand over to the Commonwealth the whole of their receipts. Similarly the tramway officials will have to hand over the monies they use in the same way. The Bill also compels the New South \\ ales Premier to continue the licenses for the totali sator’s, tho revenue frjm which, will be attached Despite anything that Mr Lang may | do, the Prime Minister said, the Go vernment was determined to fight in order to preserve the good name Australia. Mr Lang now owed the Commonwealth £2,225.000, while, if he decided also to default on the interna! interest of New South Wales, the total owing at the end of" next June would be five arid three-quarter million.’*.
