RUGBY UNION

WEEKLY MEETING. lhe weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening, there being present Messrs A. A. Adams (chairman), T. Mclntosh, F. Eggelton, W. Williams, C. Rodgers, A. D. Milne, A. White, J. Cornish, W. Delaney, J. Paterson, J. W. Rothwell, I. Steel, T. P. Ryan, J. Kyle, F. J. Tenipero and J. W. Bruce (secretary). A letter was received from the Referees’ Association applying for three sweaters and three badges.—lt was decided to grant both applications. The Lake Brunner Sub-Division wrote asking permission to extend their boundaries to admit the proposed Stillwater Club.—On the motion of Messrs Paterson and Rodgers it was resolved that the request be granted, and that the Sub-Division be asked to furnish a list of boundaries for the season. A letter was received from the Westland Sub-Union stating that a senior competition will be run in Hokitika, and that the following nominations had been received by them:— Kiwi, Excelsior, Rimu, Rivals and Ross. The Sub-Union also nominated Mr D. Dowell as a West Coast selector.

A letter from the Auckland Rugby Union asking the Union to suggest a suitable house for their representative team to stay at while in Greymouth, was left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary. The N.Z.R.U. advised that it has been proposed to appoint two selectors to select the North Island and South Island teams, and also -the New Zealand team to tour Australia. A circular letter from the N.Z.R.U. requested the Union to give effect to the following resolution passed at the annual meeting of delegates in Wellington: “With a view to securing uniformity, this meeting approves the Management Committee’s recommendation that the scrummage with three men in the front row, bo adopted, and that the wing forward position be abolished, and recommends its acceptance to all affiliated unions.—On the motion of the Chairman and Mr Rothwell it was resolved that all clubs and Sub-Unions under the jurisdiction of the Union, be recommended to adopt the proposal.

The Cobden Club wrote withdrawing their B team from the junior competition. One application for re-admission to the code was recommended to the N.Z.R.U. for approval. On the motion of Messrs Mclntosh and Cornish it was decided to write to the Canterbury Union requesting them to send a B team to Greymouth during the season, the Secretary to point out the possibility of the team being able to make the trip in one day. It was decided on the motion of Messrs Ryan and Bruce that the Buller Union be asked to confirm the dates for the following matches, as drawn up at the annual meeting of delegates: July 2, Buller v. Coast at Greymouth; August 13, Buller v. Coast at Westport; September 10, Buller v. Coast at Westport (Seddon Shield match).

It was decided that nominations be called for a Wednesday competition. It was resolved that the Sub-Union be advised that McEnaney, who at present is temporarily employed at Hokitika, is still a playing member of a Greymouth Club. WEEK-END FIXTURES. The following fixtures were arrang-

ed for Saturday next, April 30th:— Senior: Star v Cobden at Rugby Park, No. 1, at 3 p.m. (Mr T. McIntosh); United v. Blaketown at Rugby Park, No. 2, at 3 p.m. (Mr W. Williams). Junior: Cobden A v. Blackball a + Blackball, 3 p.m. (F. J. Tempero); Kumara v. United at Kumara, 3 p.m. (W. McLaughlin); Blaketown v. Stars at Rugby Park, No. 2, 1.30 p.m. (D. McKay). Third grade: Technical v. Cobden at. Rugby Park, No. 1, 1.30 p.m. (D. Kilgour); United v. Blaketown at Technical, 3 p.m. (M. B. Charteris). Fourth grade: Technical A v. Cobden at Technical, 1.30 p.m. (F. McGrath); Technical B a bye. The following players will represent the Wednesday Shops football team in a match versus Technical School at 3.15 p.m. to-day.—Sweetman, Roberts, Rathbun, Boucher, Furness, Garde, Eatwell, McLaughlin, Keddie, O’Donnell, Affleck, Campbell, T. Ogilvie, Messenger, C. Moore, J. Parfitt.
