Nowadays when everybody smokes it is as essential to have good tobacco as it is to have pure wate?- or pure food. Sb say the nerve specialists and they ought to know. The purity of tobacco, it has been well said, is the measure of its nicotine content. Nicotine cannot he wholly eliminated but it has been found that the toasting of the leaf eliminates almost all of it. And it is worthy of special note that the only toasted tobaccos manufactured are the New Zealand ones. They are all but free from nicotine, in which respect they differ altogether from the American brands in common use, the majority of which contain more nicotine than it is good for any smoker to absorb every time he indulges in a whiff. There are four brands of the toasted: Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10. They are all quite harmless, the “bite” having been taken out of them by the toasting. They are on sale everywhere—a convincing proof of their popularity!
