Heavy contracts for coal carriage were lodged with the Railway Department, by Colliery owners yesterday, to obtain the benefit of the e\ghtecnpence concession on freight, which the State Government has discontinued as from to-day. During the existence of the concession shipments of coal from Newcastle increased steadily. The discontinuance of the allowance means an addition of a thousand pounds weekly to the cost of coal obtained by Victor a from Brisbane.
