The date of the opening of the Imperial Economic Conference at Ottawa has been changed from July 18 to July 21, to meet the sailing convenience, so Mr Bennett announced in the Commons. MARKETING BOARD. LONDON, March 31. The select committee on the Esti mates, in its first report, says: With Britain’s adoption of a general tariff, the Empire Marketing Board, as at present constituted, becomes purposeless. The publicity portion of the Board’s work could more appropriately be delegated to the Trade Intelligence service. AMERICAN APPLES. BRITISH IMPORTS CHECKED. LONDON, March 31. The “Daily Telegraph” says: The importations of American apples has decreased remarkably since the imposition on the 1/3 of the ten per cent. duty. Importations were (all thousands) in hundredweights for weeks ended 27/2 166, 5/3 165, 12/3 47. 19/3 52, 26/3 33. Though there were sixteen million bushels in cold storage in the United States on March Ist, which was half a million bushels above 1931, there has been a big increase in importations of South Africans in March in addition to the •pening of the Australian and New Zealand season.
