N.S.W. COAL SUBSIDY

To Be Dropped MINING INTERESTS PROTEST. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assnj. (Received March 30 at 7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 30. As from Friday, the New South Wales State Government intends to discontinue the 1/6 per ton freight allowance as a subsidy on coal. The Newcastle mine-owners declare that to discontinue the subsidy would be a crushing blow to their industry, and would almost completely ruin their export trade. The coal miners are also indignant. They point out that reductions both in wages and in prices were agreed to on an understanding that the State Government would play its part by reducing freight.
