(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTUN, March 17. Ar a meeting of the Committee of the Rt elton Jockey Club hold last evening> ! t was decided to write to Mr G. C. Black. M.P., ami urge upon him the iree*.ss’ty of some relief from the bur •ien of taxation which racing is at present being a s ked to carry. It was also resolved that the Reefton Trotting Club be advised that their request that trotters be a.lowed to train on the gallop.ng t.ack cannot be entertained. After some routine business was transacted the meeting adjourned. The Reefiun Ladies’ Croquet Club sent players to Westport yesterday to inert the local representatives and were most hospitably entertained, ret urn: ng home in the evening after a most enjoyable outing. In the play, Mesdames Orsbourn and Wicken junr., beat Mesdanics Aitke n and R'-ece, and Mefdames Stallard and Wickcn junr., drew with Mesdames Faler and Aitken. Time did not permit of the other ganfts being finished.
The splendid condition of the Reefton Bowling Club’s green was generally most favourably commented upon by the visiting Greymouth bowlers yesterday. Mr Ahearn, one of the finest players on the Coast, gave as his opinion that it was the best green he had ever played on. This should be cheering news to the Club’s caretaker, Mr G. McKeicher, who undoubtedly takes great interest in its upkeep. A cricket match of much interest
tvi 1 be played on the Racecourse between two .Reefton teams. This match is to settle a feud between the above representatives.. Following is a list of players who are requested to play:— Auss'os: J. Lawson, C. Coxa l, W. Blom. V. Blom, T. Dellaca senr., T. Dellaca, C. Chandler, R. Chandler, W. Gorginsen. Enzcds: H.Tlepburn, S. Hunt, M. Morris, J. Slattery, O. Collins, P. Scott, A. Winchester, F. Bonifacio, P. D. Campbell. The rest of the players will bo picked on the Racecourse when play commences at 1 p.m. sharp on Sunday next. Those rolling up should enjoy the game which will help to give tho Reefton players practice for their match against Kamaka for the Shield in the near future. Three rinks* from the Greymouth Bowling Club visited Reef ton yesterday afternoon and played the Reefton Club. The weather was fine, while the green was in perfect order. Tho visitors were welcomed by the President, Mr J. Noble, who hoped they would enjoy tho game and that it would prove interesting to all. Greymouth won by fiv” points. The final head was watched . w : th the greatest interest. The Grey
total was then Ilrcc ahead of Reef ton but the latter failed to draw the shot
and the head ended in Greymouth’s favour by two. Mr E. Moss returned thanks on behalf of the Greymouth (’lub for the enjoyable game and the splendid afternoon t“a provided by the ladies, and expressed a hope that the Reefton players would send some rinks to Greymouth at an early date. Cheers for the ladies and the respective chibs concluded a pleasant afternoon’s sport.
