RENTS AND MORTGAGES

RELIEF BILL PROVISIONS. fPer Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 16. It is expected that the Government’s legislation widening the existing powers for relief of mortgagors, will appear in the House, to-night. The amendments to the Act arc designed largely to give relief to lessees, both in town and country. Town shop properties are in many cases not producing a sufficient turnover to cover the working expenses and the rental under the lease made in prosperous times, is out of proportion to the revenue of the lessee. It is expected that, the Bill will enable such leases to ho reviewed, and empower adjustments having regard to th.e interest both of lessor and tenant. The Bill will also abolish under certain conditions, the personal covenant attached to mort' gages which under present conditions might operate to revive an obligation in respect of property in which the person involved is not interested.
