A special meeting of the members or the Poverty Bay Turf Club was held to-day to consider a proposal for amalgamation with the Gisborne Racing Club, mainly due to the prevailing economic conditions affecting racing in this district. i WESTLAND NOMINATIONS. Nominations for the autumn meeting of the Westland Racing Club, to be held on March 30, close with the Secretary, Mr D. J. Evans, Hokitika, today, at 7.30 p.m. TROTTING NOTES. Ukelele Lady, though showing an j abundance of speed, has not been j trotting at all steadily at Addington, i Wilbur White and Princess Mauritius two Australian pacers, have been going impressively at Addington ami 'the former especially' is in line fettle. ; Admiral Bingen worked a mile and a--Imlf in his best style at Addington on a recent morning but he went over the first stages well out from the rail. The time was not extraordinary, however he is in good form and is trotting very steadily. Warplane paced splendidly in a work-out over a mile and a-half at Addington on Tuesday morning and showed that, he is in his best form. He will be a very fit horse when li<' parades at the Addington meeting at Easter. Real Girl has of late not been staying on too well and in a fast run of a mile and a-half the other morning with Warplane, Jewel Pointer anu Great Logan, she was stopping badly. Great Author has been going grea.: guns at Addington and at Addington on Tuesday he stood Sunchild up eight lengths and beat him comfortably over a mile and a-half. Real Boy, who raced successfully as Westport at Christmas time, has not gone on -improving since. At Tirnaru last week he was quickly out of the contest in the Temuka Handicap. RACING NOTES.

B. H. Morris will probably have the mounts on King Colossus and The Mitror in their Trentham engagements. Mrs A. McDonald’s team for Trentham will be: Inflation (who will be ridden by H. Gray), Chief Marionette (H. N. Wiggins) and Blacksmith (Alan McDonald), also La Moderns. No pilot has yet been engaged for the last-named.

The three horses with the best qualifications for the St. Leger, to be run at Trentham to-day, are Peter Jackson, Fiji and Esteem. Peter Jackson, on his form, is much above the otheis He has been doing splendidly in hm work and trainer J. Fryer can be depended upon to send him to the post a very fit horse. Fiji is a good sort and he is quite a good stayer. His second in the Derby was a first-class effort and though he failed at Auckland, little notice should be taken of that performance, as he was then sore. Tie raced very encouragingly at Rangitikei, and he will probably be the one to trouble Peter Jackson most.

W. J. Broughton will ride Weatherly, Pass On, Lyrical, Late Jest and Goy in their Trentham races, while S. Wilson will ride Eminent, Fairway and Clangor.

Historic is reported to be looking particularly bright and well after his spell and it is expected that he will be ready for the big handicaps when the ground gets softer. Monarchy, who will! race on the second day at Trentham, is reported to be bearing a perfectly trained appearance, and she is expected to perform well in her engagements. Tobaccoland looks in good order for his Railway Handicap engagement, and a lot of work has recently been put into him at the beach. This week he was sent over six furlongs and under a strong pull all the way registered Imin 18 3-ssec. Negotiations have been completed for the purchase of Karapoti and Herenra. The former was sold for £2OOO ”nd the latter for £l5OO. They are to be shipped to Sydney to-morrow and it is understood, will go into Mr J. t’ Jamieson’s stable at Randwiek. Karapoti, a four-year-old gelding by General Latour from Kilbeggan, has been trained by A. Cook at Te Awamutu for Mr M. H. Tims. He is the winner of eleven races, including the Great Northern Derby and St Leger. Heremia has been trained by J. L Gray at Takanini for Mr Cecil A. Boles. He is a three-year-old gelding by Lapidary from Blodwin and his successes include the Douro Cup at Trentham in January.
