PHAR LAP
Americans Puzzled ABOUT HIS CHANCES. (Aus. A N.Z. Cable (Received March .15 at 9.8 p.rn.) AGUA CALIENTE, March 15. I’har Lap is regarded as a question mark for the forthcoming Agua Caliente Handicap on March 20. Although he i s no longer the favourite, it is recalled that previous favourites have been beaten, and that the horse’s re cord normally should make him favourite. However th? shortness of his training time in America and the recent injury to his hoof and also the fact that b.e will for the first time ra?e on a left-hand-turn track, have somewlmt detracted from his pre-race prest:ge. Air T. Woodcock, the trainer, has continued to be reticent, and he refuses to reveal the horse’s best ni *)e ami aquart-r. He commented: “It I’har Lap is in his best form, he will run the legs off the others.” Air Davis commented: “Barring anything uniorseen Phar Lap will go to the post and give a good account of himself in the Handicap’’ Due to h’s change from the Southern to the Northrr n Hemisphere, Phar Lap is now jmtting on instead of taking off, his winter coat. Probably it w II be necessary for him to be clipped.
