REEFTON NOTES

COur Own Correspondent.; REEKTON, March 14. borne alarm was occasioned at tin hospital yesterday by a smell of tire. Captain J. Eager, of the Reef ton Eire Brigade was sent for, and after a long search, in which a sheet of iron was taken off the roof, and hole cut in the floor, the outbreak was discovered where the hot water pipes g<> through the floor. A bucket of water was sufficient to extinguish the flames. It was fortunate that it was daylight at the time, and that the nurses were able to keep the knowledge of the fire from the patients, or otherwise a stampede might have occurred. A sharp earthquake was felt yester day morning about 11 o’clock, but it was not heavy enough to cause alarm. One of the plate glass windows in Twomey’s Garage had a stone thrown through it on Saturday evening, making a hole in the glass big enough for a man to put his head through, as well as cracking the whole glass from top to bottom. The value of the pane is about £l5 or £l6. If the perpetator is found out he will have a nice little

sum to pay for his few seconds’ ex citements.
