METHODIST CONFERENCE. CHRISTCHURCH, February 19. Practically the whole of to-day’s sitt ; i.-g of the Method ; st Conference was occupied in receiving reports on various branches of church activity and thp appointment of administrative officers. Rev. W. A. Burley was elected Secretary to the Board of Examiners. A special Lay Committee was set up to consider economy measures with regard to stipends, and to report to the conference. LINER’S TURBINE TROUBLE. WELLINGTON, February 19. Shortly after the Federal liner Westmoreland cleared the Heads for New Plymouth at four o’clock this afternoon, trouble was experienced with her starboard turbines. The Union Coy’s tug Terawhiti proceeded to the Heads, and accompanied the Westmoreland back to the wharf, which was reached at seven o’clock to-night. It is thought that the. turbine was stripped. Repairs will bo effected here, and it is hoped they will be completed by Monday. YOUNG MOTOR CYCLIST HURT. MASTERTON, February 19. A Hastings youth, Thomas May who has been visiting relations in Masterton, ha s been admitted to the Hospital, with serious head injuries, which he received when his motor cycle collided with a motor-car at a n intersection this afternoon.
