FOR RENT REMISSION Government’s Reaction (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received December 7 at 7.20 p.m.) DELHI, December 7. Events throughout India are rapidly developing. Following on the Bengal National Congress decision, the United Provinces’ National Congress Committee have challenged the Government by authorising the Congress representatives in the districts of Raebureli, Etawah, Cawnpore and Unao to star the ‘‘No Rent’ 1 ’ Campaign among the pen sants under the guise of championing their rights. The Congress has exploited the agrarian situation in the United Provinces. It has demanded the remission of all rents, and has refused to compromise with the Government. The Government’s measures to meet the new threat against law and order will bo put into operation immediately. INDEPENDENCE DEMAND. CALCUTTA, December 6. The Bengal Congress unanimously passed a resolution that the time has come for the people of India to attain independence, and appealing to the public, to prepare for the coming fight.
