(Our Own Correspondent ) REEFTON, November 17. Th© funeral of the late £yril ijaxrr&s Smith, took place at Cronadun thjs morning and was very largely attended, there being many present from all parts -ctf the West Coast. Members of the Cronadun. Football Club were the pall bearers, and were folWwed by representatives -of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union, uni addition io a large concourse of people. The services at St. Michael’s Church aud at the graveside in the Cronadun Cemetery were read by the Rev. Father Aldridge. Tlie funeral of the late Robert Powley took place this afternoon and was attended by an, immense con-c-oiirse of people from all parts of the district. As the cortege left deceased’s place of residence, the Exchange Hotel, the firebell tolled, am< ‘he procession beaded by members Of the Reef ton Fire Brigade, who were also pall bearers, proceeded to St. Stephen ’s Church, followed by members of the fam&ly and friends. Th e members of the Inangahua Miners’ Union and the general public, t'he procession included thirty motor vehicles while the hearse was laden with floral tokens. The Anglican service was read a t St. Stephen’s Church, aud ai the graveside in th'e Suburban Cemetery, by the Vjiear, the Rev. W. Bell } thg. ceremony bejing very impressive. Miss Sc’oble, Gisborne, who has been on holiday with her parents in Reefton,, left by this morning’s express on her return. Mrs Jas. Bolitho, Black’s Point, left this morning on a visit to the North Island. Mrs J. McEiwjin, Hukarere, who has been on a visit to rellatlives here, returned this morning. Air and Mrs Schwitizer, Greymouth who have been on a visit; to the latter’s mother in Reefton, left by this morning’s train on a visit to Mr Schwitizer’si parents. Mrs Ilawken and fapiily of three, of Dobson, (Kevi.u, Fred and Muss Dorie), arrived in Reefton to-day to be present at the obsequies of the late Robert. Powley.

Mr and Mrs/ J. Watt of Parnassus, the latter a sister of the Powley brothers, arrived in Reefto n late last night, having driven the whole distance from Parnassus in one day. The newly-formed Reefton Athletic and Cycling Club hold their first meeting to-morrow evening, commencing at 5.30 o’clock. Tire programme contains cycle and foot races, high jumping aud vaulting, a ladies’ race aud field events and should attract a largo attendance of spectators. One of tine most attiradtive features of the meeting ks the number af new pedestrians that will be seen at the meeting, and it is predicted that some of the neiwlcomer s will surprise some of thei more experienced athletes. Reefton Swimming Club’s/ annual meeting was held on Friday evening at the Baths, when there was a num erousi attendance. Mr J. Dellace presided. The balance sheet, showing the Club to( be in a satisfactory position, was received a,nd adapted. The election of officers resulted: —Patron: Dr. W. A. Conlon; President: Mr E. Nicholson; Vice-Presidents: Messrs J. Crossman and St- John; Club Captain: Mr W. Prentice; Secretary: Muss O I Roberson; Committee: Misses A. Henry, M. Hoy, Hay-McKenzie, Magee, Messrs Morris, Della G. Crossman, O. Hoy and E. Nicholson. It was reserved that, the County Council lx 1 asked to clean the baths and that the present caretaker’s services be continued; that the opening hours of the baths to be thfe same as usual.
