BROADCASTING

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11TH. The speaker for the International Programme at IYA this evening will be Mrs Gordon Robertson, who will speak on “The International Outlook in Art and Literature.” A feature of 2YA’s programme will be a sketch entitled “The Signal” (by Landon) The scene is laid on the bridge of a merchant steamer coming up the English Channel in the year 1917. The sketch is being produced by Mr Victor S. Lloyd. On the supplementary programme, the Salon Orchestra will be heard in “Suite from the Count, yside, ” “Child’s Dream.” “In Downlands, ” “Danse Espagnole.” “Intermezzo” (from Strauss’s 1001 Nights”), “A Love Song, ” and “The Beils.” The Melodic Four will delight listeners with quartettes and solos. 3YA will not be observing a silent day, but from J 1.30 a.m. is broadcasting the results of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Meeting at Riecarton. In the evening, a holiday programme will be presented. The Hilo Harmony Four, w’ith steel guitars and ukulele, will provide some bright music. Miss Addie Campbell, always a very popular performer, will sing, among other num bers “Indian Love Call” (from Rose Marie”). Mr Clive Hindle will sing three popular baritone songs. There w’ill be contralto solos by Mrs Stallard. All the vocal items will have orchestral accompaniment. The humour of the programme will be provided by Mr 'Geo Titchoner and orchestral selections will be played by the Studio Octet. A concert to be given in the Tudor Hall, Dunedin, by the Dunedin Orphans’ Club, will hie broadcast by 4YA. Tt w’ill be “Ladies Night,” and a most attractive programme has been arranged. Part of the programme will bp given by Orphans A. Walmsley, Haggitt, 8. J. Angell, 11. W. Eggers, S. H. Osborne, and a string quinte' party. Part two will be given by a Pierrot Party.
