N.S.W. LOTTERY

Opening Day REMARKABLE RUSH FOR TICKETS. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received August 10 at 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 10. Completely blocking pedestria n traffic, in two busy city streets, one thousand people gathered in wide queues to-day for tickets for the first New South Wales State Lottery. The effieial opening of the lottery was marked by remarkable scenes. Hundreds of people assembled at six o ’clock this morning, and hundreds more were unable to buy tickets. So great was the crush that a large staff were unable to eope with it. ■Women seemed to predominate, but there was a large percentage of men. These obviously were unemployed men.

The magnificent building of the New South Wales Government Savings Bank, formerly handling millions of the people’s money, is now the headquarters of the State lottery.
