AGAINST GOVERNMENT I I Appeal to Protestants TO VOTE UNITEDS OUT. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 10. - An appehl- to Protestants to oppose ( the present Government at the coming general election was embodied in a motion that was carried to-day at the | Dominion Conference of the ProtesI tant Political Association.
Mr F. A. Taylor, of Hawcra, presided, and the member's of the Executive Council and delegates from all garts of New Zealand were present.
It was stated in th resolution that the United Patfy had failed to uphold Imperial and Dominion responsibilities, and that it had neglected and opposed the rights of Protestants. The resolution condemns the Government as having failed' to maintain adequate defence, and it is stated that this would place an added burden on Great Britain.
It was also stated that the primage luty imposed by the Budget would remit in a decreased preference for Empire goods.
The objection was taken as to specl ial privileges being extended to Roman Catholic Church in the direction of dental clinics and a*s to exemptions for Priests and the Marist Fathers and Marist Brothers from payment of the unemployment levy. The resolution further contained a reference to privileges being provided for in nurses and the Midwives’ Registration Act, and to eulogistic references by Ministers of the Crown to the sectarian schools, with a prejudicial effect on the State school system. A REFORM CANDIDATE. AUCKLAND, August 10. General Sir George Richardson (exMilitary Governor of Samoa) has accepted nomination as a Reform Party candidate for the Auckland East seat.
