MOTORING

IN NEW ZEALAND. The Department of Transport returns show the enormous growth of motoring in New Zealand: £48,000,000 have been spent in 15 years in motor vehicles and the annual cost of operating the motorcars is £28,000,000. The railways, which cost £57,000,000, only require £9,000,000 to operate them. At the end of 1921 there were 143,814 motor vehicles in the Dominion, one for every ten of the population, and ranks New Zealand as one of the highest car populations in the world.
