RAILWAY ACCIDENT
AT KAMAKA. INJURIES PROVE | As the result of serious injuries «s--|tained through being knocked down oy the Blackball-Greymouth train at Kamaka station at about 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday last. Joseph Kemp Burgess, aged 56 years, a bushman, died at the Grey Hospital yesterday morning at 4.30 o ’clock. Since his removal to the Hospital in a serious condition, suffering from a , fractured ankle, severe facial injuries land shock, the deceased gradually became worse, and passed away as stated. The late Mr Burgess, who was employed at Meates’ Sawmill, Otira Line, was, it appears, visiting friends on Wednesday at Kamaka, and when stepping over the railway line, without noticing the approach of the train, he ’ was struck by the cowcatcher and i thrown clear. The deceased leaves no j relatives in the Dominion, but is survived by a brother and sister in GabI eston, Huon, Tasmania, Mr William Burgess and Mrs F. Ford.
