Executive Meets I The Executive of the West Coast ‘ Society met yesterday af- • ternoon. Mr W. B. Gilbert, President, ■ presided. The Secretary reported that Mr By- ! ron Brown, of Wellington, had advised ' his inability to accept the position as 1 adjudicator in the elocutionary sections of the 1931 Festival, owing to his being Vice-President of the Wellington Competitions Society, whose festival was taking place at the same time as I Greymouth. He suggested his willing- | ness to adjudicate at Hokitika in place I of Mr Barton Ginger, if the latter would come to Greymouth, and the change were agreeable to the Westland ' Society. The Secretary stated that the 1 posi- ' tio n had been referred to the West land Society, who had kindly agreed to the alteration. Mr Ginger had written concurring with the proposal. Mrs Eva Huhne, who had written ac- ] eppting chjO position of adjudicator in i the dancing sections, wrote from Syd- I ney intimating that owing to the pos- j sibility of , her remaining there, she j regretted being unable to fulfil her engagement. The Secretary reported having telegraphed asking Miss Iris Montgomery, of Christchurch, if she could undertake l the work, and she had replied in the I affirmative. Miss Montgomery, besides I being a teacher of wide experience, had previously adjudicated at Auckland, Hamilton, Dunedin and Wellington. Mr J. Crossley Clitheroe, lecturer in music at the Dunedin Training College, had accepted the position of adjudicator in the vocal and instrumental music sections. . ! The following were unanimously elect- . ed adjudicators for the forthcoming I Competitions which open on Wednes- • day, August 26th, and continue to Wed- ’ nesday, September 3rd:— Oratory and Debating: Mr W. Meldnnn, S.M. (Greymouth). Elocution: Mr Barton Ginger (Wei-! lington). Vocal and Instrumental Music: Mr J. Crossley Clitheroe. (Dunedin). Dancing: .Miss. Iris Montgomery (Christchurch). A letter was received from Messrs Chappell and Co., of Sydney, intimating . that they were donating a gold medal ( j for an open vocal section, for their publication “Song of Songs.” A vote j jof appreciation was accorded Messrs J Chappell and Co. for their continued support. It was resolved that the Finance Committee report to next meeting re<ra ding the financial position of the Society. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on a convenient 'date about; the middle of .Tune.
