-*> presentation to miss k. wills A very successful social and dance was held at Rotokohu School o n April 24th. the occasion being a send-off to ' Miss K. Wills, school 'teacher, who wa> leaving to take up a position at j Cronadun. The large attendance off residents of the district was eloquent ■ testimony of the popularity of the young lady. The music was supplied by Airs Fait, Miss Walselebe n and Mr ,J. Silcock. Extras were contributed by Miss Hutton and Miss McKaue.; During the evening vocal items were ■ rendered by Mr J. Andrews, 1. Paine ami Miss R. Fiat and M r I*. Bell gave a recitation. Mr J- Andrews who spoke on behalf of the parents, apologised for the ab-. sence of Mr R. Siicock (Chairman of rhe School Committee) who had re-• centlv undergone an operation and was unable to attend. He ■wished to thank Miss Wills very heartily for the pains she had taken with the children. It was a matter for regret that the school had gone down in grade, as the community had thereby lost the services of a highly qualified and capable teacher. In all the social functions that were held and anything appertaining to the welfare of the district, Miss Wills had taken a prominent part and her assistance was greatly appreciated. In moving to Cronadun she would n‘°t far away, and hoped to see her at their social gatherings on future occasions. He then called on Mr T.ewis to a make a presentation. Mr J. Lewis representing the School ' Committee, said he wished to thank Miss Wills for the manner i n which she had conducted the school. He thought that she would just as soon teach school at Rotokohu as anywhere i (Ise, but unfortunately the Board had decided that she should move on. Dur--1 ing th? time she had been there every scholar who had been presented for the Proficiency Examination find been successful, and the work of the children of the lower classes had reached a high standard. The appearance of Hie school, both inside and out reflected great credit on Miss Wills. He then asked Miss Wills to accept a handsome blouse case as a mark of the csleein in which she was held by the residents of Rotokohu, and called on two of the senior scholars who pre- , seated Miss Wills with a gold mounted fountain pen on behalf of present and pa«l pupils. Mr H. AValseleban replied on behalf of Miss Wills, the residents and scholars for their handsome gifts. He said that when Miss Wids was appointed to th? Rotokohu school she felt doubtfid of her ability to fill the position, this being her first school as sole teacher, but in a very short time, with the co-operation of the parents. School Committee and children, she realised her fears were unfounded. Her message to the children would be. to make the fullest possible use of their school time and to get hold of those proficiency certificates ns soon as possible. Miss Wills holed the children wouLI work as hard for her successor ns they had done for lie)’. Dancing continued to a late hour when the function terminated with the singing <>f Auld Lang Syne.
