Spiritual Di | I rector, congratulated the Club njem-1 | hers on their success of the past year J I Last year, he- said, most of rhe work j had been done by a few wilEng mem- 1 | bers, but he hoped that during the | i coming year! all would take a lively in terest in the Club. He was pleased, to see so many new members present,' and trusted that the C lul. would have' andther successful rear. H M hoped that all members would attend the meetings regularly in order to fornnulate programmes, whi -h would be of interest to all. The elocution and rebates did not uiterost all. he kn>w, but it was the duty of the member? to j attend the meetings, when they could make their suggestions to the Execuive. While in Christ church lecently, . he met members of the Christchurch I Club, whjo expressed regret that the ISt.. Columba Club was notxrepresented ; in Timarlu recently at the annual Ho- ’ eut'ionaiy and debating competitions J of Catholic Clubs. Next year, the ! Competitions would be held in Christchurch, and he hoped that th.? Columba , Club would be represented. He re-, presented. He referred to the loss sustained by the) Club in the departure of Rev. Brother Tareisius, hut wa s confident that Rev. Brother Fergus would prove a worthy successor fo j Brother Tarcisus. Very Rev. Father J. Long, eXpHessed the gratitude of the whole parish to the members of the- Club for | the reviewed interest and fine Catholic ! spirit which the Club had shown in r<*-1 ••ent years. He was glad to hear the tributes which had been paid +o Rev. ! Brother Tareisius, and said that not | only the Club but also the whole par-, ish, owed to Brtother Tareisius more : than it was able to express. He, also, /welcomed Rev. Brother Fergus, and I felt sure that he would be a most valuable member! of the Club. In conelusion he hoped that all the young i men would join np with the- Club and ■ was confident that with the loyal co- 1 operation of all, the* Club would continue to prosper.
