I Considerable dissatisfaction was I caused among matriculation students, [and the headmasters of the schools : they attended, by the difficult arithImetie paper set for this year’s examination. A further cause of complaint is the appearance of a mistake in the first section of the geometry paper. ■ One mathematics master declared [that the arithmetic paper was stiff enough for a degree examination. He would not guarantee to do more than 65 per cent, of the questions himself. For the Matriculation or University Entrance, only a mathematics genius could tackle the paper, and a great majority of the boys would not do it after four years at a secondary school. The arrangements of the arithmetic paper has also given rise to dissatisfaction. It is stated that the paper was badly arranged in that a note at the top of the page stated that equal values would not be given for each question. The usual manner if different values are allowed for questions, is to indicate the respective marking for the individual questions. Ihe mistake in the geometry paper was in the first section of question six.
