SPANISH UNREST

The police were in conflict with 'unemployed, many of whom were | wounded and arrested The political and industiral situation throughout Spain is most confused. The Republican leader, Lerous, and the Liberal leader, Unamino, are violently and abusively attacking King Alfonso. The public is becoming enlightened regarding the extravagance maladministration on the part of the Dictatorship, which is contributing to criticism of the King. Unemployment is now increasing owing to a cessation of General De Rivera’s public works programme.
A mob at Barcelona sacked the headquarters of the Patriotic Union, which supported the Dictatorship. Reinforcements of gendarmes repeatedly charged and dispersed the rioters. King Alfonso, accompanied by th? diplomatic corps, has left Madrid by special train for Riofrio on a hunting expedition. King Alfonso has issued a decree dissolving the National Assembly formed by General De Rivera. LONDON, February 15. The “Morning Post’s” Madrid eori respondent states:—General Beren guer is retaining a strict censorship. Up aims at preventing now political parties being organised immediately. Republicanism is undoubtedly aris ing with a new vitality. There is a tendency on the part of the political elements to combine- into groups of Republicans and Monarchists. A prolonged strike at smelting works at Sagunto gave rise to a report that a revolution had broken out there, but this is without <anv foundation.
