WELLINGTON CASES. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. Alay 13. Having pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, valued at £ll 6s 6d, Arthur Henry William Bevan, aged 21. was sentenced by Chief Justice Myers to two years at Borstal, concurrent with the term he is serving. His Honour regarded Bevan as the tool of someone else.
Sentence was passed to-day by the Chief Justice on James Snii h, a young man, found guilty of assault, so as to cause bodily harm, the case arising o ut of a disturbance in a house in Cuba Street, during which a man was struck on the head with a bottle. Nine months’ hard labour was imposed, his Honou r taking into consideration that Smith had been in custody for three and a half months awaiting trial. WELLINGTON SENTENCES. WELLINGTON. Alay 13. William Worsley, an ex-warder at Porirua Mental Ilospi al, was sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour by Chief Justice Myers for perjury in connection with the recent trial of a warder for maltreating a patient. Chief Justice Myers said that such a:i offence struck at the very root of the admin.st ration of justice. Corneille Hubert De Afey Delkemade was-sentenced to 18 months’ hard labour on three charges of theft by con verting t 0 his own use £2OO belonging to a widow, whom he had persuaded to execute a power of at.orncy in his favour. Chief Justice Myers said that it was a very mean theft.
