At the last minute Cobden had \o make a change in their team, Bayley, the outside left, not turning out, and Steers was brought in to fill the plac©Rcwanui were at full strength. Th*» pitch was in perfect condition. Rewa nui were the first to make progress, and. in a couple of minutes were granted a penalty. Moore took the Kick and Aims brought off a glorious save. A corner followed anl Cobden defence was having an anxious period. The danger passed, / [and Sharpe started a good movement with a nice pass to the centre, but the attack was brought to a finish by Moore punting well down the field. In these early movements Cobden defence had shown up none too well. There was the promise, however, of a keen, fast game. The custodians were good at this stage of the gOjine, although Aiirns had more to do than Timlin. After 14 minutes came a goal. The Rcwanui supporters «?njoyed it. Craig, getting tho ball well out, was allowed to work himself .into position, mid with a fast grounder, beat Airns ail the way. The next two or three attacks found Rcwanui giving the Cobden defence a gruellitag time, and Aims and his backs were constantly on the alert to prevent a greater deficit. Cobden forwards could not get going, and a movement on the right by Cameron and Marley was frustrated by Moore. Ixelly, who had been pdaying a good game, sent well out to the left to Crowe, who took the ball right down he field, and Kelly, lying in a nice handy position,, from twenty yards out 1 , drove the ball past Airns, through a host of players. Cobden now wakened up and McLean sent Marfley away on the right, and he sent in a, lovely cross which Timlin cleared. Rcwanui scented to tifre at this stage, and it camo as no surprise when McLean scored a lovoi ly goal from a cross by Marley. There was a lack of punch, however, about the Cobden forwards and time and again the Rcwanui backs dispossessed them. With the interval approaching Cobden put on a spurt, and made a bold attempt to get the equaliser. Steers got right through the opposition, and with a shot to the far post, nearly scored. However, Timlin sent round the post for a corner. End to end play followed. Rcwanui halfbqfck line kept the opposing forwards at bay, and purveyed their own forwards with lovely ground passes. The interval came with Rewanui leading by two goals to one. When the second hallf opened, Cobden assumed the attack right away. Cameron set Marley going on the right, but Timlin saved his parting shot. Cobden at this juncture seemed quite likely to draw level. There were two or three chances which the •nsidc men should not have missed. After twenty minutes play, M. Marlay rounded both Newton and Moore, and sen t in a lovely crotfs shot, which Tynljrn failed to hold, ahd Steers,i running in, scored the equaliser. Re- I wanui kept plugging away and Ajrns in goal saved Cobden from any set- I back with a few masterly clearances. McLaren sent in a rocKet which he

tipped over the bar for a corner. Mai 'pass did the same, and Crowe on the left sent in. a shot which' Aims cleared well. With ten minutes to go Rewanui forwards were playing a, lovely close passing game, and McLaren, from twenty-five yards out, sent in a great shot which struck underneath the crossbar and rebounded into the field of play. The referee’s whistle went for a goal, greatly to the surprise the spectators. However, Malpass got the rebound and gave Air ns no chance. Rewanui forwards bad all the play until the final whistle went, and deservedly won by three goals to two.

Summing up, Airns in goal for Cobden played a good game, and was to thank for his team no* being more in arrear. The other five defenders were patchy, with Sharpe the best. J. Cowe received an injury to his ankle in the first half, which kept nim from playing his usual game. M. Marley was the best forward with Cameron a good second. Timlin in goal for Rewanui had not as much to do as Anns*. The backs played well, and the half bucks all played well, with Kelly and Deardon being at their best. The five forwards all played good, no »*ne b«»ing better than another. DOBSON DEFEAT RUNANGA. At Dunollic on Sa urday afternoon.
