YANGTSE FIGHTING
BRITISH GUNBOAT S EXPLOIT HONG KONG, April 15. A story of the exploit of the British gunboat Tern, in the upper reach <8 of the Yanqtse, js told by naval wireless to-day. It appeare .that owing to heavy fighting twelve nifties above lehang, shipping in the upper reaches was unab’e to move. The Tern proeSbded up the river to effect a release, runnint the gauntlet of heavy fire. Throe ratings were wounded. However the object was achieved, the Tern returnilng safely with the vessels. [ Alarming news from the same source indicates that the Hunan soldiery is out of hand, and has attacked and looted the Asiatic Petroleum Company’s installation ,and thjit for cign mission at Changtekh. SHANGHAI, April 15. Defeated soldiers at Shangteh, Hunan Province, looted the city and made a prisoner of L. H. Gabb, inspector of the Atlantic Petroleum Company, keeping him without foed and clo’hing all day, and wounding him by a spear thrust in the thigh. A British gunboat was unable to approach the city, owing to low water.
