VISIT OF H.M.S. DUNEDIN
SPORTS MEETING ON SATURDAY. The visit to Greymouth of the H.M.S. Dunedin, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week, is elaiDTing the attention of local bodies, whose aim it is to fittingly welcome the officers and men. An attractive programme of entertainment i? being arranged by the Borough Council, and the Harbour Board, but the -sports side has been handed over to the Wesj Coast Rugby League, who have been asked, and have consented to attend to this. At a meeting of the Centre last evening, presided over by the President (Mr J. D. Wingham), it was resolved to undertake the carrying our. of the sports at Victoria Park next Saturday, An extensive programme was mapped out, which promises to provide a fund of entertainment for the visitors. Included in tl:e events will be pedestrian and cycling events, the itinerary of which will be approved of by the Acting Mayor (Mt F. A. Kitehingham) and the Chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr J. McLean). A comprehensive programme of children’s events has been arranged by the committee, and the prizes for these will be I’beral. An interesting event will be a tug-b’-war between teams of sailors from H M.S. Dunedin, and local sides. A soccer match is being arranged between a team from the warship, and the cream of the West Coast SSSeer p'ayers. A reply has. been received by the Association Football Centre from Commodore Sw/ibey, agreeing to the match being played*.
