FIRE BRIGADES.

N.Z. DEMONSTRATION. Hawera Again Champions. AN OUTSTANDING TEAM. (Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, March 3.

The U.F.B.A. can congratula’e itself upon the success of its jubilee demonstration here, not only as regards the weather and conditions, but also as to the interest alike of competitors and public, and the absence of any hitch in the programme from start to finish. The competitions were yesterday afternoon concluded, and the championsip remained as at the previous demonstration with the team representing Hawera Brigade, reflecting credit - on the men and especially their leader, Mr Morrison, at one time of Greymouth, who has his team in a rare pitch of perfection. The officers all worked like drill sergeants in getting off the events, as otherwise the long programme never could have been completed within three days. The press is indebted to Minute Secretary J. Wilson, of Milton, for his very efficient and courteous assistance in the

•ompilation of the numerous results. On Saturday evening, when the trophies were presented at Cass Square in front of the grandstand, which was festooned with coloured electric globes, several interesting speeches were delivered, and the trophy winners were warmly complimented. The visiting speakers were unanimous that no previous “demo” in the history of the Association was pnoHe successful or enjoyable than this one, and in paying a very high tribute to the hospitality and co-operation of the Brigade, public men and citizens of Hokitika throughout the week’s proceedings of 4 he Association. The firemen, except some fifty of whom left for home on Saturday, will all be leaving in x a special train today, starting at 8.40 from Hokitika. The remaining results are as follows: —
