WESTPORT NOTES.
(From -Our Correspondent.) WESTPORT, February 11. Recently attention was drawn to the fact that a survey was in progress between Heaphys and Jnangahua Landing, in connection with the WestportInangahua railway. It was surmised that the route of the railway had been definitely decided upon, and the surveys completed, but evidently such is not the case, as a statement is burrent now that orders have been given that no further buShfelling contracts are to be let Heaphys. It seems reasonable to expect that the work will bo expedited now that the Government Has decided to complete this line, and those in charge should see to it that there is no undue delay in carrying out the work. The Public Works Engineer promised to submit reports to the Progress League, and it is t 0 be hoped that they will disclose that real progress is being made. Mr Silas Jenkins, dentist, arrived back in Westport to-day. Mr Dave Thompson, a junior member of an old Westport family, is vising Westport. Mr Thompson was employed on the coal loading cranes for some time, and then joined the P. and T. Department, leaving later to go to Australia. He is now living in Wellington, and returns north' on Tuesday morning. Miss Agnes Holland, left to-day for Wellington, and will join the Maunganui on Friday for Adelaide. Mr E. J. Williams (Canterbury and West Coast manager of the International Correspondence Schools) and his wife are the guests of Miss Phillips, Russell Street. An old identity of Westport, in the person of Mrs McMahon, mother of Mr E. McMahon, of Westport, and Mrs J. O’Gorman, of Kilbirnie, Wellington, died on Friday morning. She wag predeceased. by her husband many years ago. During the visit to Westport of Misses Miller and Stockley, the children from the schools in the district will be taken to the public baths for tuition in the art of swimming, this being one of the main objects of their tour.
Mrs Storer, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Avery, of the sig nal station, western breakwater. left, by the s.s. Komata for Wellington. Ml- F. W. Leaper (architect) and Mr Cole (attendance officer), arrived from Nelson yesterday, via Reefton and Tkamatua, and proceeded to-ilay to Karamea to consider a concentration proposal. They return to-morrow, and leave for Denniston to hold an inquiry i".it 0 a parents’ complaint. A young man named Price, of Tiromoana, was thrown from 9 horse yesterday, and sustained a broken arm. The ambulance was -sent out late last night to bring him in to the district ho pital. ___
