TORY LEADER’S COMMENTS. OTTAWA, February 11. Resuming the debate on the Ad-dress-in-Reply on Monday, Mr Bennett, Conservative leader, declared the Conservatives wou’d not move an amendment to the speech. He characterised the speech as a “ document of glittering generalities. ’ ’ He declared that the prosperity of the country was Largely due to the richness of the country’s resources, and challenged thc Government to point out one instance where prosperity resulted from Government legislation. Canada, he said, was now importing large qhiantidies lof blitter, (whereat* before the Government legislative interference, Canada had been a large exporter. He declared that the basis of prosperity in Canada was thc agricultural industry. The miner harvester scheme, added Mr Bennett, which had brought 8000 persons to Canada last year, had been ill-conceived and improperly carried out.
OBJECTION TO BUTTER IMPORTS. VANCOUVER, February 11. Despite repeated reports at Ottawa that the Canadian-Australian trade treaty will be attacked in Parliament/ especially on behalf of the dairymen in the maritime provinces, where it is claimed the importation of New Zealand butter sets the Canadian price, Mr J. A. Ruddick (Dominion Government Dairy Commissioner), who is attending Ithe (Western Canada Dairy Convention, opening on Tuesday, states that the dairy industry throughout Canada is on thc upgrade with steadily increasing production. Last year was the best for many years in Eastern Canada, and there was a noticeable on the during the last four months.
