Brown, wno was called to Dunedin, owing to the serious illness and death of hia father, returned to Greymouth yesterday. Mr Hugh McLauchlan, of the office of the Inspector of Permanent Ways, Gr ymouth, left yesterday for Christchurch and Dunedin, on annual holidays. Miss Helen Bignell, Assistant librarian at the Greymouth Municipal Library, who has been visiting Wellington, returned yesterday. Mr T. Bond, who received news of the death of his brother, Mr F. Bond, of Blenheim, proceeded to that town in ordj-ir to attend the funeral of deceased. Mr R. P. Hudson, former M.P. for Motueka, leaves this month for Ceylon, where he has interests in several tea plantations. Among the passengers by yesterday’s outward express were MesMoore, C. Daly, and Misses V. Finlay and M. Batty The Hon H. L. Seymour, S.M., has been appointed to succeed Rev Father Herring, S.M., as Parish Priest at Reefton, and Rev Father Dalton Campbell succeeds Father Seymour at Blenheim. A London cable states that Mrs Little Gilmour, who accompanied the DucH-ss of York to Australia, was granted a divorce at Edinburgh from her husband, on the ground of misconduct. The petition was undefended. Rev Father P. Kane, S.M., formerly of the Weet Coast, has returned to New .Zealand from Queensland, and is at present on a visit to Westport, arriving from Christchurch by yesterday’s express. The death is recorded in a London cablegram of Admiral Sir Edmund Fremantle, G.C.8., G.C.8., G.C.V.0., C.M.G. He was in his ninety-third year, and served in the Maori War, as well as the Burmese and Ashauti Wars. He was a. writer on naval topics and held many commands during the latter half of last century. A cable from Honolulu states that Doctor J. B. Condliffe Research Director of the Institute of Pacific Relations, will sail on February 13 to address the New Zealand Rotary Conference at Christchurch, on problems of thM Pacific He will also visit Wellington, Melbourne and other cities.
