RIVERS CAUSE ALARM. SYDNEY, February 8. The torrential rains which have fallen on the north coast during the last few days, caused the rivers to rise to alarming levels. As much as fourteen inches were recorded in twentyfour hours. The State Meteorologist issued wornings that there is danger of floods. These have been,- sent to postmasters in the north coast river towns. Further heavy falls are predicted. PETROL STORE ABLAZE. ADELAIDE, February 8. Fire at a bulk store belonging to H. Sleigh, spread to the motor assembly plant belonging to Millingen and Co. Fifty thousand gallons of case petrol and oil blazed furiously at Sleigh’s premises. Four men endeavouring to check the flames were seriously burned. The damage is estimated at £9OOO. FINANCE EXPERTS REPORT. SYDNEY, February «. Arthur Buekham, before embarking on the Niagara, loft a message for Australians, declaring: “The growth and future prosperity of Australia is assured. not well with Australia. There will have to be readjustments of mental attitudes and methods. The outstanding question before the people is whether these readjustments will be arrived at by political or industrial strife, or by saner and more humane methods of mutual co-operation and conciliation.”
