Speaks in Irish. r, — SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT. LONDON, February 8. De Valera has been 9 uteucej to a month's imprisowmlent (for catering' Ulster, Although prohibited). (Received Feb 10 at 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 8. De Valera replied to questions in Irish. The Chairman objected, saywk 'iug that it might be necessary to prove that De Valera understood the proceedings. A District Police Inspector said that he had conversed with De Valera in English. The Chairman asked Do Valera whether he had ajny evidence to call or anything to say. De VaJttra replied in Irish. The Chairman (heatedly): “Irish isn’t spoken in this Court. English is the official language.” De Valera again replied in Irish. The Chairman: “We have had enough of this play acting. - ’ He til n passed sentence of a month.
