REEFTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BEEFTON, Jan. 14. Miss A. Duffy, of Christchurch, who has been on annual holidays, visiting to her sister, Mrs R. Pennington, left on return to Christchurch on dayMrs Jones, of Auckland, and formerly- of Reefton, is at present on a. visit and is renewing old acquaintances. Perry Bros.’ Circus showed on the Strand Reserve on Saturday night before a very moderate 'house. A number of intending patrons went on strike, shying at the entrance fee for adults namely 4/6, and with a little bit of speechifying induced other intending patrons to withdraw, thereby depriving them from seeing an excellent show, but nevertheless saving their four and a ‘bender’ which will no doubt come in %andy in the near future. Rain continues in Reefton at the present time, the air being close and muggy.

The whole of Reefton was shocked h o-day to hear of the death of Miss Mary Florence Harvey, only daughter of Mr and Mrs 'William Harvey, of Upper Broadway, in her 25th year. The deceased young lady, who was a great favourite with all, had been ill for only a couple of weeks. Her condition became fq serious last evening that her removal to the hospital was decided upon in order than an operation could be carried out as a last resource. The operation was successfully performed, but Miss Harvey had not sufficient strength to effect a rally and she passed away without recovering from the anaesthetic. The deceased young lady was a native of Reef ton, and an ardent and unselfish worker in the Methodist Church. She possessed an excellent voice, and was frequently h;eai‘d at local entertainments, while at her place of employment (Wills & Co.’s) she was a prime 'mvourite with all. The bereaved parents and family will have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole town and district in their great loss. The interment will take place to-morrow, the funeral leaving her parents’ residence, Upper Broadway, at 2.30 for the Wesleyan Church, thence to the Suburban Cemetery.
