SALARIES OF
Railwaymen’s Protest, AGAINST PROPOSED INCREASE. WELLINGTON, Januarp 14. The Thorndon branch qf the A.S.B.S. carried the following motion unanimously:— “That members of the Thorndon branch of the A.S.R.S. note with in-ti.-rest the movement by members of Parliament to have their honoraria increased, and strongly object to any such increases unless and until the salaries and wages of pub ic servants are restored to at last the 1921 level. Further, the members of this branch of the A.S.B.S. wish to make it quite clear that if the members of Parliament vote themselves anything in excess of the restoration of the ten per cent cut made on their honoraria in 1921, public servants throughout the Dominion also should be voted a similar proportionate increase in their salaries and wages.’’ During the discussion, it was contended that the members of Parliament were being paid amply for the work they wen.' doing, but an allowance should be paid to members while absent from their hdmes on Parliamentary business.
