One thousand waterside workers ai Port Adelaide to-day rushed volunteer workers, who were unloading the Mareeba during' the “smoko. e volunteers scrambled for the gangway, which broke, and fifteen fell on the wharf. They and others climbed the lopes and crossed over the Mareeba and jumped into some ketches on the other side. Stones were thrown at them. One volunteer replied by firing four shots from a revolver. One hundred and fifty mounted police swooped down on the rioters, who then began to move towards the steamj er Mannipa, where the volunteers were attacked with stones and boots. The police used their batons freely, and scattered the men in all directions, many of them having to go to the hospital. One volunteer, however. was badly injured, being brutally kicked on the ground.
