WORK WANTED.
BY OVER 300 MEN. Dunedin’s Unemployed. (Pe.r Press Association). , DUNEDIN, January 14. The Mayor of Dunedin, Mr Taverner, (Stated that the nnemploym.nt probiem is causing him great concern. - I'fie City Council is unable at presl-int to do veiy much more than it has accomplished, and the outlook is nqt bright. Regarding the £2OOO grant from the Government, the Council draws up a scKJdulo of work, the Public Works Department then approves the schedule, and the Labour Office selects the men for employment. The-se are ah marrL-d men, and they receive 14/pcr day. About 50 men are engaged in relief works now being carried out.
Mr J. H. Lightfoot, Officer in Charge of tl4l Labour Department, states that there 164 married men and; .146 single men on the waiting -ist, a total of 310, which represents an increase ef 35 on Monday of last week.
